Jungkook
I can’t believe that Mr. Kyung and Adam have actually accepted that she would go with them. I can’t even process what they said about her being trained like an agent even if explains a lot about her character. Taehyung was right – it does explain a lot about the way she acts – the way she always knows what needs to be done, like when Oh had sent thugs to her place and she didn’t report because she knew his game or when Byung was attacked and she had kept the knife as evidence. The way she had fought off the hitman at the hospital or the way she tricked him into taking her while she led the others to her.
I can’t help but see my sister in a whole new light. If people thought I was the cooler twin because I’m an idol, they’re wrong. She definitely is the cooler twin. I mean she’s like a bloody agent and if I doubt it, I just have to look at Detective Tong’s face and remember.
He’s still tied to the chair, with the blindfold on his eyes. His hands are handcuffed and he has zip ties around his legs. I’m pretty sure all of this is illegal but then again, he broke the law first – he betrayed everything that his badge stands for. He chose to betray the law and his community for money. I mean it’s pretty bad when you consider that he tampered with evidence, killed someone and made it look like suicide and then killing off the only witness. Mr. Kyung will probably take care of him sooner rather than later.
Minji did a good number on him as well. His jaw is bruised pretty bad and I’m pretty sure he has black eyes too. His lip is busted and he has some dried blood around his nose. He’s been really quiet ever since Minji told him she’d give him to Lee herself. I guess she was right, the most basic way to threaten someone like him is with his life. Nobody wants to die and nobody wants to get hurt.
I look over to the dining room where Mr. Kyung, Adam, Minji and some friends from the force are intently discussing their plan. Jimin walks next to me and elbows me. ‘You okay? You look worried.’ He says.
‘Aren’t you worried?’ I ask and Jimin smiles as he also rests against the wall. He sighs and nods.
‘Very worried. Do you know why I accepted that she goes?’ He asks and I shrug. ‘Because she needs this. Don’t get me wrong, I hate the very idea that she’s going to go there and that they’re going use to use her as a bait or decoy or whatever they want to call it but I know she needs it.’ He says and I nod.
‘I get it hyung. I think I understand. She feels responsible for what happened so if she is part of the team that catches Lee, it can give her a sense of peace – that she did something about it.’ I say.
‘Exactly and let’s be honest, if they didn’t let her, she would have still gone anyway. I’m just glad she saw sense and came here before trying to go on her own.’ He says and I sigh.
‘Yeah I know. That’s what I thought too.’ I admit and then I look at him. ‘Did you know about her parents being in the NIS? You didn’t look too surprised when he said so.’ I say and I see him smile as he looks down.
‘Yeah, I knew.’ He admits, avoiding my gaze. My jaw drops a bit as I look at him in disbelief. ‘Her Appa was the one to tell me actually and I’ve known for quite some time.’ He explains.
‘Whoa. I mean he must really trust you. I bet he already thinks of you as his son-in-law.’ I tease and I see his cheeks go red a little.
‘Well I do imagine spending the rest of my life with her Kooks. I imagine us getting married in the future and building a family. She’s the only one for me and I don’t plan on ever letting her go.’ He says as he looks towards the kitchen, his eyes falling on her. I smile, seeing all the love and devotion he has for her and I sigh in relief. I know that my best friend, my hyung and my sister are the perfect match for each other. I know they'll always look after each other and support each other.
‘Are you sure about it Minji? Once the plan is set in motion, there is no backing away.’ I hear Adam saying.
‘I’m sure.’ She says, sounding convinced. Suddenly, we hear the door opening and I can’t help but stiffen up. I guess the tension is getting the best of me, well, us because I'm not the only one. Everyone gets silent and I feel Jimin tense up too while Namjoon goes towards the door until we see Hoseok walking.
‘Hoseok-hyung?’ I ask, my eyes going wide in disbelief. He nods as he gives us a small smile before his eyes land on Detective Tong and then on the group in the kitchen.
‘What did I miss?’ He asks as he looks back at us. ‘It looks like you guys are planning some huge rescue mission or something and who is he?’ He asks. Minji walks next to him and gives him a smile.
‘He’s the guy who killed Rei.’ She explains. Hoseok gulps as he looks at her. ‘You only know about Oh right?’ She asks and he nods. ‘Well, Rei was, um… tricked into being Lee’s spy. She thought she was protecting me and when she realized it was all wrong she went to report to the police thinking it could help but this monster shot her dead.’ Minji explains. Anyone can hear the hatred dripping off her voice like acid.
‘Oh Minji. I’m so sorry.’ He says as he pulls her into a hug. ‘I know it must be difficult for you.’ He adds and she sighs once more.
Mr. Kyung and Adam explain the whole plan to us. It sounds like a good plan but I am not utterly convinced. Well, I am convinced of the plan, I just have my reservations regarding Minji’s safety. She’s going to be the first one to walk in – to get all the attention on her. She’ll be wearing a vest, a mic and a camera so that they know what is going on. When all the attention is on her, they’ll surround the place. In this way, they’ll know what they are walking into but I still hate the fact that she’s going to be in danger in the first place.
I walk to the garden as I look at the birds flying by. I smile at the tranquility of the world as opposed to the nervousness in my heart. I hear soft footsteps and I look to see Minji there. ‘Hey Kooks.’ She says with a soft smile.
‘Hey Minmin.’ I say as she sits next to me. She sighs as she looks down to the ground. ‘How are you holding up? Are you scared about tonight?’ I ask her but she shakes her head as she looks at me.
‘I’m a little nervous, I won’t lie but not really scared.’ She says before she looks back down. ‘Kooks, I want you to be honest with me about something.’ She says and I nod. Her voice is low, showing she’s actually nervous about whatever she wants to ask.
‘Tell me. What is it?’ I ask her and she looks at me. She bites her lower lip nervously as she takes a deep breath. ‘Tell me Minji. You know you can tell me anything.’ I encourage her.
‘You know what I did to Detective Tong.’ She says and I nod as I recall his face. ‘I just… I just want to know how you feel about it.’ She says and I look at her confused.
‘What do you mean Minji?’ I ask her as I take her hand in mine. She frowns, clearly finding the words difficult to utter. ‘You want to know if I think any differently of you because of what you did, right?’ I ask and she nods. ‘I don’t Minji. That * is a corrupt cop who hurt innocent people. You just gave him a couple of bruises and it’s nothing compared to all what he did. If anything, I am proud of you.’ I say.
‘I threatened to kill him Jungkook and God knows I felt like killing him.’ She admits almost sounding ashamed.
‘But you didn’t and you knew you didn’t want to kill him because you removed the bullets from the gun even before you threatened him. That takes a certain strength of character. I’m not sure most people would be able to hold back like you did which is why I am so proud of you.’ I say.
‘Really? Proud?’ She asks, her eyes big as she stares at me. I let out a little chuckle and nod. ‘I thought you were going to be disgusted by my actions or that you would feel ashamed to call me your sister. I was really scared that you and Jimin were going to look at me differently.’ She says and I shake my head.
‘Nope, not happening Minmin. I know you just want to catch Lee and make him pay for everything he has done – hurting noona and hyung, trying to hurt your boyfriend and you and for what he did to Oh and Rei.’ I say and she nods. We stay silent for a moment before I start the conversation again. ‘Are you sure about you joining your Appa and Adam tonight? They can do it on their own you know?’ I ask her.
‘Kooks, I’m sure. I know you’re worried. I can see it in your eyes. It’s going to be okay. Appa and Adam knows what they are doing and so do I. I promise.’ She says.
‘I know Minji. I know their plan is good but I can’t help but worry. I felt so lost when Jimin-hyung woke me up to say you were going after Lee. I thought I was going to go crazy. You have no idea how scared I was. You’re my sister and I hate seeing you go through all this, especially to keep us safe.’ I say with a frown.
‘You’re my brother and I would do anything to keep you safe. You know that.’ She says and I nod in understanding. I know exactly what she means. I can't help but recall Christmas time when that car came in our direction. I had pushed her away and I fell into the water. She face her fear and jumped right after me without any hesitation at all.
‘I do know that. I’m glad you came back to us and not went on your own because you have a tendency to be very stubborn.’ I say and she smiles. ‘Aish I just wish I could protect you just as much as you protect me Minji. I don’t want anything to happen to you.’ I say and she smiles.
‘You’re adorable Kookie.’ She says as she slides closer to me. She wraps her hand around my waist and I wrap my arms around her securely. ‘I love you Kooks.’ She says.
‘I love you too Minmin.’ I say as I squeeze her even tighter.
Jimin
Minji and I are in our bedroom as I hold her hand. ‘It’s time Jimin.’ She says and I nod with a sigh. Throughout the day, I’ve tried to keep myself calm. I tried to convince myself and Jungkook that she is going to be okay, but now I feel my anxiety rising.
‘I really wish you didn’t have to go.’ I say, looking down. She places her fingers under my chin as she forces me to look up to see her.
‘You know why I need to do this.’ She says and I nod. ‘I’m going to be okay. Appa and Adam won’t let anything happen to me.’ She says.
‘I know but it doesn’t stop me from being scared or worried.’ I admit as I pull her into a hug. I hold her tightly to me. ‘Promise me you’re going to be careful.’ I say.
‘I promise jagi. I have you to come back to.’ She says and I can’t help but smile a little. I pull away from the hug but we still remain close.
‘You better remember that.’ I say with a smirk before I lower my face to be close to hers as I kiss her. It’s like usual, a gentle peck that develops into something deeper and more passionate. We move until her back is against the wall while my arms trap her there.
I kiss her with more passion. She goes to take a step forward but my hands settle on her hips as I push her against the wall gently. She snakes up her hands up my body as she wraps them around my neck. She leaves one there while the other one runs through my hair. ‘I love you Jimin-ah.’ She whispers when we finally break the kiss.
‘I love you too Minji.’ I say as I look at her. I go to kiss her again when the door opens. We both pull back to find her father there.
‘We need to get ready.’ Her father says as he gives us an authoritative look. No matter how much he likes me, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t appreciate me being all over her in front of him.
‘Yes, Appa. I’m on my way.’ Minji says, her cheeks flushing a little. Her father rolls his eyes as he leaves the room again. Minji and I look at each other as we both burst out laughing.
‘Aish I missed hearing you laugh.’ I say, causing her to smile. She gives me another quick peck before she goes downstairs. I follow behind her as we make our way to the living room where her father and Adam are waiting.
‘Here, put this on.’ Adam says as he hands her a vest. She nods as she gives it to me to hold as she takes off her hoodie to reveal her tank top. She puts on the vest underneath the hoodie. It’s another reminder that where she is going is dangerous. I feel my stomach tense up and tighten. ‘Wear these.’ He adds as he hands her a box. She opens them to reveal two contact lenses.
‘Are those cameras?’ Jin asks in disbelief. Adam lets out a chuckle and nods. ‘Daebak! I never thought they were real. I always thought they were something used in TV or books.’ He says and I’ve got to admit that I’m with him. I always imagined they were something of fiction. Minji smiles as she takes them out and puts them in carefully, almost expertly.
‘We’ll be able to see what you see with those.’ Mr. Kyung says as he comes to attach something to her, right behind her earlobe. It looks almost invisible if it isn’t for the thin blue line.
‘That will let us hear everything and keep a track of you. This is for you to hear us.’ Adam says, handing her an earpiece. She nods as she places it on and then gives Adam a thumbs up. Adam smiles, almost looking excited and if I am being honest with myself, Minji looks just as excited as well. I guess there is a sudden rush to it so I can’t blame her.
Mr. Kyung approaches her, a serious look on his face. ‘I didn’t wish for it to come to this but you need to have something to protect yourself with.’ Mr. Kyung says as he hands her a gun. I feel my blood run cold and she looks at him unsure.
‘Appa I never fired a gun at someone and I’m not sure I’m capable of doing that.’ She says and her Appa sighs.
‘You want to be part of this operation? Then I need to know you can have something to protect you in case things go sideways.’ He says. She frowns but takes the gun anyway. Mr. Kyung nods as she looks at the gun.
‘You know, it’s not the first time I held a gun but it feels different to know that it is loaded with real bullets.’ She says and Mr. Kyung nods.
‘I know. Don’t use it unless you have to but if you do need to use it, don’t hesitate too much.’ Mr. Kyung directs. She nods and puts the gun away, behind her back. Her father sighs as he brings her closer to him and gives her a kiss on her forehead. ‘I am so proud of the woman you have grown into – stubborn and proud and a hothead who drives the people around her crazy but also beautiful, smart, brave, selfless and kind.’ He says. I find myself nodding in agreement to everything he says.
‘Appa.’ She says with a smile as she holds his hands in his. ‘I’m all of those things thanks to you and Eomma.’ She says and Mr. Kyung smiles. Adam approaches her and gives her a cap and a mask which she is quick to put on. She turns to me and I smile. ‘How do I look?’ She asks, trying to hide her nervousness.
‘Like a proper agent.’ I say as I pull her into a hug. ‘Remember what you promised me jagiya. You’re going to be careful.’ I remind her.
‘I promise.’ She says as she hugs me even tighter. I pull slightly back as I look at her beautiful, dark brown orbs which seem to twinkle. I kiss her forehead and I see her smile under the mask. ‘You’re going to see me soon love.’ She reminds me and I nod. She pulls away from the hug and then looks at Jungkook who sighs and nods. The two siblings hug tightly and I can see Jungkook being scared to let go of her just much as I am. He whispers something to her and she nods.
She pulls away and walks next to her father and Adam. We all look at her one more time before they turn around and leave. I hear the door closing and I let out a deep sigh. ‘So, now what? What do we do?’ Taehyung asks.
‘We wait. That’s all we can do. We wait and pray that everything goes well.’ Jin says. Jungkook and I both exchange a look that seems to be in agreement – sorry hyung but we’re not going to be waiting.
Everyone goes up to their room because waiting in the living room together was going to drive everyone mad. I go to my wardrobe as I pull out my clothes as I begin to change. I put on my black pants and hoodie and start to lace up my boots when there is a soft knock on the door. I look up to see Jungkook walking in with a smirk.
‘I guess I’m not the only one planning on going there. I thought I’d ask you if you needed a lift since you don’t drive.’ Jungkook teases.
‘Yeah I kind of figured you’d want to go too.’ I say as I look at him wearing black clothes as well.
‘I’m sure she’s going to be okay but it’s better to be there. I can’t stand being here and just wait without doing anything.’ Jungkook admits as I finish lacing up my boots.
‘I know. It’s the same for me.’ I say as I stand up. I grab my cap and the two of us walk out of the room. We head downstairs but as we reach the front door, I hear someone clearing their throat. We both turn to look to see Taehyung at the top of the stairs.
‘Hyung.’ Jungkook mutters under his breath as the three of us stay there looking at each other.
‘Where do you think you two *s are going on your own?’ Taehyung asks in a very serious tone.
‘We’re going after Minji. You can’t expect us to sit here and just wait.’ I say as I look at him. He nods and starts coming down the stairs. ‘Tae, what are you doing?’ I ask.
‘I’m coming with you. What else?’ He asks. Jungkook and I look at each other almost in disbelief. ‘I’m not leaving you two *s alone. Someone needs to keep you in check and make sure you don’t just rush into things which could possibly make things worse for Minji and besides, I may not be Minji’s brother or boyfriend but she is my friend too.’ He says as he walks past us and out the front door. I smile as we follow behind him.
‘Should we tell the hyungs?’ Jungkook asks as we make our way towards the car. Tae chuckles as we get in.
‘What makes you think they don’t already know?’ He asks. Jungkook and I look at each other once more before we hear footsteps behind us. We turn around and see Namjoon, Jin, Hoseok and Yoongi there, all of them wearing black clothes.
‘You boys were pretty obvious about it.’ Namjoon says smiling. ‘And like Taehyung said, there needs to be someone to keep you from jumping in.’ He adds. I look at the balcony where I see Yun standing there, arms across her chest.
‘Yun wasn’t particularly happy to be left behind.’ Yoongi says with a small chuckle. ‘Now come on. Let’s get going on.’ He says as he starts walking to his own car.
‘Did you really think we were going to let you guys go alone?’ Jin asks with a smile on his face. I keep staring as Jin and Namjoon follow Yoongi. Hoseok walks up to us and smiles.
‘Minji has done a lot for all of us. It’s time we return the favor.’ He says before he walks after the others as well. We get into the car and I can’t help but smile at how lucky I am to have them as my hyungs and Minji as my girl.
